Different Lifting Results

Though both methods add ride height to your truck, a body lift does not add ground clearance. A body lift operates by adding space between the body and frame with the use of fiberglass-reinforced nylon body blocks. This creates space for larger tires, which can increase ground clearance, but leaves the suspension components at the stock height. However, this method of lifting is a cheaper alternative if you're simply trying to add larger tires, or trying to make your Silverado sit a little taller and improve the look.

A suspension lift adds both ride height and ground clearance by elevating everything that is supported by the suspension, making room for larger tires which further increase the total ground clearance of your Silverado 1500. Suspension lifts are typically tailored towards those who hope to venture further off-road than the average outdoorsman into places not yet tamed by man. This benefit does come at a cost, as most full suspension lifts can cost several times that of a comparable body lift. A leveling kit adds both ride height and ground clearance to the front by placing spacers on the front coil springs, making your Silverado sit level. Though, a lift and level kit elevate both the front and rear to increase overall ground clearance even more, along with added ride height. Combining all three lifting methods can increase the look and performance of your truck tremendously.

It should be noted that any type of lift to your Chevy will raise the center of gravity the higher you lift. This leads to a higher risk of body roll, traction reduction, and handling issues. Between body and suspension lifts, a body lift doesn't have as great of an impact on the center of gravity, but still increases it depending on the weight disbursements of your truck.
